Good news
for jargon-hunters. Now there’s a best of breed, leading
edge freeware that delivers results-driven value.
Put more
simply: there’s a free computer program to de-geek your
speak.
In the
continuing fight against jargon, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu
has developed a free software program called “Bullfighter”
that attacks confusing lingo. The software is available at
www.dc.com/bullfighter.
According to the DTT website, “Bullfighter is software that
runs in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, within Microsoft
Office 2000 or XP. It works a lot like the spelling and
grammar checker in those applications, but focuses on jargon
and readability.”
We haven’t tried it. But we’d love to hear from someone
that has. The first person to give us a review gets a free
copy of “Even a Geek Can Speak: Low Tech Presentation Skills
for High Tech People” by Speechworks President Joey Asher.
And we’ll publish what you thought of the software in our
next newsletter.
Jargon costs money. A
Forbes report stated that 30 percent of technology projects
in the U.S. are canceled before completion. The cost: $75
billion a year. The report stated that Low-tech
executives cancel the projects when they fail to understand
the high-tech consultants’ geek speak.
Mark Twain said “If you can catch an adverb, kill it.” A
corollary could be “If you can catch some jargon, strangle
it.” Now there’s a software program to help.
