"What do I do with my hands?"
We get that question all the time.
In our Persuasive Speaker workshop, we teach
three "do be’s" and one “don’t be.”
-
Be
big. Reaching out can making even small people
look big and confident.
-
Be
steady. Hold the gestures through a thought.
Lots of frantic hand movements can be
distracting.
-
Be
forward. Reach out toward the audience.
Reaching backwards looks awkward.
-
Don't be too concerned
because gestures aren’t as important as voice
energy and eye contact. Lots of great
presenters have terrible gestures. But no
great presenters have weak voices and terrible
eye contact.
If you’re interested in improving your gestures,
attend our communication skills workshop, the
Persuasive Speaker. In this workshop, you’ll
deliver five presentations in front of a small
group all with the help of our expert coaches.
The workshop focuses on two areas:
-
How to organize a message that is simple and
focuses on audience needs. Speechworks teaches
a simple Formula for focusing on listener
needs. We believe that if you have strong
content, you will be more confident when you
get up to speak.
-
How to deliver the message in a style that
connects with the listeners. We focus on eye
contact, gestures, voice energy, and facial
energy. Our coaches will give you private
feedback on where you most need to improve.
All participants get five private sessions with
a coach to rehearse and review the videotapes of
their presentations. Open workshops are held
twice a month at the Speechworks training center
in Atlanta. Call us at 404-266-0888 to learn
