“There are
some people who raise their upper lip so high, or let the
lower lip sag so much, that their teeth are almost entirely
visible. This is entirely contrary to decorum, which forbids
you to allow your teeth to be uncovered, since nature gave us
lips to conceal them.”
Those
words are come from a 1703 book entitled “The Rules of
Christian Decorum and Civility.” But to look at the serious
faces in corporate boardrooms today, you’d think it was an
excerpt from an employee handbook.
That fact is
that a smile is a great way to connect with your colleagues.
At Speechworks we call a smile “A handshake with your face.”
If you’re interested in improving how you come across to your
colleagues, attend our communication skills workshop, the
Persuasive Speaker. In this workshop, you’ll deliver five
presentations in front of a small group all with the help of
our expert coaches.
The workshop
focuses on two areas:
-
How to organize a message that is simple and focuses on
audience needs. Speechworks teaches a simple Formula for focusing on listener
needs. We believe that if you have strong content, you will
be more confident when you get up to speak.
-
How to deliver the message in a style that connects
with the listeners. We focus on eye contact, gestures, voice energy, and facial
energy. Our coaches will give you private feedback on where
you most need to improve.
All
participants get five private sessions with a coach to
rehearse and review the videotapes of their presentations.
Open workshops are held twice a month at the Speechworks
training center in Atlanta. Call us at 404-266-0888 to learn
how we can produce a workshop for your team at your location.
