Cast Your Vote For President.  Is Bush or Kerry the Better Speaker?

Presidential candidates tend to be pretty good speakers.  And with the campaign for President upon us, we’re interested in hearing from you on who you think is the better speaker of the two candidates.  You can cast your vote on the Speechworks website.

While you can use any criteria you want, we suggest judging the candidates in several areas.

  • Content: Don’t just focus on whether you agree with the candidate politically.  Consider whether the candidate’s message focused on just a few key points or is aimless and rambling. Does he use interesting stories to bring the message the life?  Remember how Reagan used to tell the big story by telling about a single person?  That’s the sign of a master.  To check out some classic presidential speeches go to this website focusing on Presidential Speeches.
  • Voice Energy: How well do you think the candidates energize their delivery with their voice? Do they sound passionate?  Do they speak in a conversational style?  Or do they have a monotone rhythm?
  • Facial energy: How expressive is the candidate’s face?  Do they smile?  Do they use their eyebrows to vary their expression?  Or does the candidate keep only one serious look at all times?
  • Gestures: A lot of candidates have distinctive gestures.  Remember Clinton’s “thumb/fist?”  Or how about Howard Dean’s pointed fingers?  Take off points if the gestures are distracting.

We'll tally the votes and let you know who wins.
