Can Jargon Make You Sound Stupid?  Absolutely says Consultant Survey.
 

Think you sound cool throwing around the latest buzzword?  Think again.

A study by a British consulting firm found that 20 percent of people who use jargon or buzzwords, use them wrong. With that in mind, think about how badly your credibility will be undercut if your audience members think you’re using a piece of jargon incorrectly.

At Speechworks, we work with our clients to increase their credibility by coaching them to present their messages with less jargon.  We coach our clients to use stories, tight messages, and strong voice energy. In our workshops, we give plenty of opportunity to practice on camera.  We then give you feedback from a coach.

All of our programs focus on two areas:

  • How to organize a message that is simple and focuses on audience needs. Speechworks teaches a simple Formula for focusing on listener needs.  We believe that if you have strong content, you will be more confident when you get up to speak.
  • How to deliver the message in a style that connects with the listeners.  We focus on eye contact, gestures, voice energy, and facial energy. Our coaches will give you private feedback on where you most need to improve.
