Fear of Computer Crashes Surpasses

Fear of Public Speaking, Geek Poll Says.

Fear of losing personal and professional data in a massive computer failure has surpassed fear of public speaking as the nation’s top dread.

At least that’s according to a survey done by Geek Squad, a company that helps prevent computer failure.

Speechworks is certainly pleased that public speaking fear could be on the run.  But where public speaking ranks as a fear depends on the survey. Google.com recently offered up three surveys putting fear of public speaking first, second and sixth among the most common phobias of North Americans.

One survey found the dread of speaking in front of an audience outstrips all other fears including heights, bugs, financial problems and deep water.

In the second survey, only fear of snakes surpassed public speaking, which beat out claustrophobia, spiders and insects, needles and shots, mice and flying.

In the third review, public speaking came in sixth behind calamities such as being buried alive, being bound or tied up and drowning, but before fear of hell, cancer and tornadoes and hurricanes.

Wherever public speaking ranks among your fears, Speechworks can help you overcome that fear and be a better speaker in our communication skills workshops.   All of our programs focus on two areas:

  • How to organize a message that is simple and focuses on audience needs. Speechworks teaches a simple Formula for focusing on listener needs.  We believe that if you have strong content, you will be more confident when you get up to speak.
  • How to deliver the message in a style that connects with the listeners.  We focus on eye contact, gestures, voice energy, and facial energy. Our coaches will give you private feedback on where you most need to improve.

So whether you’re scared more by computers, speeches or snakes, Speechworks can help you feel more comfortable when it’s your turn to take the lectern.

At Speechworks we help our clients learn how to give communicate in a way that connects and persuades.  If you’re interested in becoming a great communicator give us a call at 404-266-0888 or check out our website at www.speechworks.net
