If you want
to learn how to sell an idea, take a tip from the dentist of
one of our coach’s sons. During a recent braces consultation,
the dentist passionately told stories about new dental
discoveries and how they would help straighten the child’s
teeth.
“I’ve never
met a dentist who seemed so excited about fixing teeth,” our
coach said. “This guy really seemed to love his job and it
came across in his voice and face. It made me want to switch
dentists. I want him to work on my teeth. But he only does
kids. I’m so disappointed.”
More than
anything else, passion sells. Whether you’re trying to win a
piece of business or selling an idea to your colleagues, you
increase your chance of making the sale simply by looking and
sounding excited about the idea.
To do that
you should turn your voice into a roller-coaster of
excitement. Make your voice to rise and fall. Make your face
to shine with intensity. These things allow your audience to
see and feel that you believe in the idea.
The people
at the Home Shopping Network learned this lesson long
ago. How many deep fryers sit unused in attics because
someone got all pumped up by an excited salesman on HSN?
Plenty.
So if you
want to sell ideas, take a lesson from the passionate dentist:
show excitement for your solution.
