New Fed Chairman said to be Plain Speaker -- At Least in
Comparison to Greenspan.

By most accounts,
President Bush’s choice Ben S. Bernanke as the next Fed Chairman is
a worthy successor to Alan Greenspan. But when Bernanke takes
office, it almost certainly will end what most agree has been
Greenspan’s frustrating practice of being almost impossible to
understand.
According to
recent news accounts, Bernanke differs from Greenspan in that he
is widely considered to be a plain-speaker.

The Speaker is the Most Important Visual Aid Unless You're
Unveiling the
Statue of Liberty. |

Normally, the most
important rule for use of visual aids is to remember that no visual
aid is important as you, the speaker. The exception, we learned
last week, is if your visual aid happens to be the Statue of
Liberty.
Last week was the
anniversary of the unveiling of that great copper statue in New York
Harbor, a gift from the French in honor of America’s example of
Freedom.

If you want to make
sure that your message gets through to an audience, considering
taking a lesson from the great marketers. They settle on a catch-phrase and repeat it over and over, hoping to penetrate the public’s
mind.
Many great speakers
do the same thing.

We don’t know who
said it. But the sentiment is important to remember when putting together your
presentation. Remember that public speaking is not the place for
delivering a lot of data. It’s the place for giving a few key
insights and bringing those insights to life with stories and your
passion.
