One key to success
as a female television news anchor has nothing to do with how you
communicate. It’s the color of your hair.
That’s the message in a recent story in the on-line magazine Slate.
The story points out that while 20 percent of the white population
is blonde, 60 percent of white female TV anchors are blonde.
While news
producers think blondes get better ratings, at Speechworks, we don’t
believe hair color has a thing to do with your ability as a
communicator.
The key to
connecting with an audience is having a listener-focused message and
a delivery style that shows intensity and commitment to your ideas.
So if you want to
get a blonde dye-job, that’s your business. Who knows? Maybe blondes really
do have more fun (though we doubt it). And perhaps blondes get
better ratings. But blondes only give better speeches if they’re
well-prepared, listener-focused, and energetic.
At Speechworks we
help our clients learn how to communicate in a way that connects and
persuades. If you’re interested in becoming a great communicator
