You’re in Atlanta. Your team members are scattered across the globe.
And you have to lead a conference call.
How do you conduct the conference call in such a way that inspires
confidence in your colleagues and team members?
That is what we asked Carmen Burns, longtime radio and television
personality, in our most recent Speechworks Podcast. To hear the
conversation with Carmen,

Carmen is the perfect person to consult on the issue of conference
calls because her daily radio broadcasts on such radio stations like
790 The Zone, and NPR amount to gigantic conference calls.
Like on conference calls,
she must project her ideas and personality through complex
technology to people who
can’t see her.
So what is the key to conference call success?
“The main thing is you have to have energy,” says Burns, who is also
a Speechworks coach. “You have to crank it up because a microphone
and a telephone can really suck the life and the energy out of your
voice.”
Burns mentions that it’s also important to tell stories, keep your
messages simple, tell stories and recap your key messages at the
end.
At Speechworks we
help our clients learn how to communicate in a way that connects and
persuades. If you’re interested in becoming a great communicator
